Chelsea Peterson
is an artist, maker, and creative spirit with a passion for bold abstract paintings and handcrafted polymer clay wearables. Rooted in curiosity and a love for hands-on creation, Chelsea’s work draws from the world around her—capturing a balance between the introspective and the vibrant. She’s known for her spontaneous, intuitive process, letting colors and shapes flow freely, often resulting in pieces full of energy and emotion.
While her acrylic paintings bring a sense of drama and movement, her earrings reflect a playful, wearable expression of her artistic style. Whether she's painting large abstract works or creating with clay, Chelsea’s art is a reflection of her joyful experimentation and love of materials.
When she's not creating, you can find Chelsea running distances some might call "unreasonable" or exploring all things outdoors with her dog by her side. Chelsea works from her studio in East Bayside, Portland, Maine.
Why I Create
My mission is to create pieces that spark joy, invite curiosity, and bring a little more beauty into the world—whether it’s through a bold statement painting for your home or a playful pair of earrings that makes you smile every time you wear them.

Process
When I paint, I work intuitively, letting the process guide me rather than starting with a fixed plan. I love incorporating geometric shapes, but they appear naturally as I go, driven by what feels good in the moment. My work is all about texture and layering—using acrylics as my main medium, but mixing in ink, pencil, pastels, or whatever’s within reach. One of my favorite parts is sanding down layers, revealing hidden bits and pieces underneath to create something unexpected. You never know exactly how things will turn out, and that's the magic of it.
Living in Portland, Maine, I’m constantly inspired by the natural world around me, from coastal views to unique textures and architecture. Whether I’m using brushes, palette knives, my hands, or even random objects to create texture, the goal is to explore and play. I'm typically working on at least two dozen paintings at any time—sometimes I create one-offs, other times I end up with a group of pieces that feel like a close family, connected but unique enough to stand on their own.
Creating for me is a positive, energetic experience. I follow whatever feels good, which is why so much of my work is filled with bright, bold, and harmonious colors. I’m constantly experimenting, mixing colors, and asking, “What if I…?” The curiosity is what keeps me excited and makes every piece feel new.
Polymer clay is a newer adventure for me, but I’ve fallen in love with the process of creating wearable art. In a way, my earrings feel like miniature sculptures, tiny extensions of my paintings. Just like my larger works, the colorful patterns and playful palettes in my earrings come from a place of joy and experimentation. Whether I’m painting or making earrings, both are long processes with many steps, but they’re always worth seeing through to the end.
